--An Intro to Three Phase:
Three Phase Event is a sport designed for gaited breeds. First, horse and rider complete a dressage test, maintaining the correct walk/trot/canter gaits. Next they go on to a stadium obstacle course, similar to a competitive trail class. Horses are judged on obedience and efficiency, and may complete the course at any speed or gait. Finally they compete in a cross country course. Three Phasers are not asked to jump, but must instead navigate around, across, under and between all sorts of obstacles that might be encountered on a trail ride. An ideal time is set, so speed is important, though the horse may go at whatever gait they please.
